Matthew Richard Deery, 19, of Alpha passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in Upper Nazareth Township as a result of an auto accident.
Born November 13, 1992 in Bethlehem he was the son of Thomas Deery of Springfield, PA and Dawn Dalrymple of Alpha.
He was a 2011 graduate of Phillipsburg High School where he was a member of the football and track teams and where he was voted by his classmates as “Best All Around”. Matthew left this world a better place with his smile, sincerity and love for people. Matthew was a very special person who genuinely cared about everyone he knew. Please find comfort in knowing he spent the last year of his life at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, a private Christian university where he became closer to God. During his time at Lipscomb Matthew was an All-Atlantic Sun Conference honoree for the Bisons in just his first season of competition. He was honored by his teammates and coaches as “Freshman of the Year” and was the “Fightin’ Bison” award recipient which was given to the toughest competitor on the team. He broke five school records this past season in the indoor and outdoor pole vault, 60M hurdles, 110M hurdles in the heptathlon along with earning A-Sun All Academic honors.
In addition to his loving parents he is survived by two brothers, Eric James Deery and Daniel Jacob Pantuso; his loving partner of 5 years, Kayla Mercado of Alpha; maternal grandparents, Richard Dalrymple of Califon and Brenda Dalrymple of Forks Township; an uncle, David Dalrymple and his wife, Sharon; an aunt, Debra Kleinfeldt and her husband, Adam; and cousins, Christina and Julia Dalrymple and Liberty and Benjamin Kleinfeldt.
