I am so saddened to learn of Matt's death. As the Associate AD for Academics at Lipscomb, I had the privilege of overseeing Matt's academic work here and primarily knew him through study hall. He was a very personable and polite young man who was also very conscientious about his studies. The Lipscomb athletic family has suffered a huge loss, and we will miss him very much. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with Matt's family, friends, and teammates.

Everyday when i saw Matt in school he always had the brightest and most inviting smile I have ever seen. Him and Kayla were a match made in Heaven, for he was a true Angel on earth. My sincerest sympathies and condolences reach out to you, the Deery family and to the Mercados. It was a blessing to have known a true Saint. May he rest easy, until we meet again <\3

Matt pretty much helped me become a hurdler in track in high school. He was patient, kind, and positive. He made a great mentor for me, as well as a friend. My prayers to the Deery family. You will be missed.
